Aesthetic Dog-Proof Fencing:

Moving to a new property comes with an exciting list of priorities, but for pet owners, establishing a secure perimeter is always right at the top. Finding a fence that keeps active dogs safely contained can be a challenge—especially when the boundary needs to complement the surrounding countryside rather than look like an industrial barrier.

When a client recently moved premises, they contacted Safesite to design a bespoke perimeter solution that would stop agile dogs from jumping or squeezing through, while seamlessly matching the aesthetic of their local surroundings.

The Challenge: Dog Containment Without Sacrificing Style

Standard post and rail fencing offers a classic, rustic look that suits rural and semi-rural properties perfectly. However, traditional timber rail spacing presents two major safety risks for dog owners:

  • Jumping Hazards: Energetic or larger breeds can easily clear standard-height 1.2m rails.

  • Gaps and Squeezing: The wide spaces between horizontal rails allow smaller dogs or puppies to slip right through into neighbouring fields or roads.

The client needed a timber barrier that provided maximum security against escapes without compromising the natural, traditional character of the site.

The Safesite Solution: 150m Custom Post & Rail with Mesh Backing

To deliver the ideal balance of containment and visual appeal, Safesite designed and installed a 150-meter custom timber fencing system tailored specifically to the property:

  • Increased 1.5m Height: Safesite built a 4-rail timber structure standing at 1.5 meters high—giving the fence extra clearance to deter athletic dogs from attempting to jump over.

  • Aesthetic Timber Features: The fence was constructed using half-rounded horizontal rails paired with rounded vertical pales. This soft, natural finish allowed the continuous 150m boundary to blend naturally into the surrounding landscape.

  • Integrated 50mm x 50mm Wire Mesh: To completely close the gaps between rails, Safesite lined the inside of the structure with heavy-duty 50mm x 50mm weld mesh. This fine-mesh barrier creates a physical shield that keeps dogs safely inside without ruining the traditional timber aesthetic from the outside.

Why Mesh-Backed Post & Rail is Ideal for Pet Owners

Combining traditional timber craftsmanship with hidden steel mesh creates one of the most effective pet containment systems available for residential and agricultural properties:

  1. Dual-Layer Protection: The sturdy 4-rail frame provides structural strength, while the fine wire mesh prevents digging, squeezing, or reaching through the boundary.

  2. Unobtrusive Aesthetics: Galvanised mesh blends into hedges, grass, and foliage, allowing the natural wood grain of the timber posts and rails to remain the dominant feature.

  3. Versatile Property Demarcation: It provides a soft, welcoming boundary that respects local countryside aesthetics while delivering the peace of mind of a high-security enclosure.

By combining an extended 1.5m profile, rustic half-round timber, and tight 50mm mesh, Safesite ensured the client's pets remain safe and secure in their new home without losing any of the property's natural charm.
